Payroll Specialist
Greenville, SC or Spartanburg, SC | Full-Time | Non-Exempt
Reports to: Payroll Administrator
Seat Purpose
The Payroll Specialist is accountable for processing client payrolls accurately and on time while following established processes and maintaining a high standard of professionalism. This role exists to ensure payrolls are completed correctly, consistently, and with minimal disruption to clients or the team.
Key Accountabilities
- Process payrolls for multiple small business clients with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency
- Review payroll data, employee changes, and updates to ensure completeness and correctness
- Maintain confidential client and employee information within payroll systems
- Follow defined payroll processes, schedules, and deadlines without exception
- Communicate clearly and professionally with internal team members and clients via email, chat, and occasional phone calls
- Identify discrepancies and risks early and escalate issues appropriately
- Support recurring payroll cycles and assigned projects as needed

- Payrolls are processed accurately and delivered on time
- Errors are rare and addressed quickly when they occur
- Work output remains consistent during high-volume and high-pressure periods
- Processes are followed carefully, and ownership is taken without reminders

- The team can rely on this role to carry a steady workload without creating noise or disruption

Payroll or accounting experience is helpful but not required for the right candidate.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma required
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in business, accounting, payroll, or a related field preferred
Work Environment
